Princely State of India Holkar (Indore)

INDORE The Kingdom of Indore was established on January 20, 1734 when Maratha Chief Peshwa Baji Rao gave hereditary rights to one of his Cavalry Commandant Malhar Rao Holkar. In 1805 a Treaty of Peace and Amity were entered into with the British. Indore had an area of about 10,000 square miles with a population of little over a million (1931). However its territories were not contiguous but widely separated, interspersed with territories of British India and numerous other Indian States.
